Report: PSG Turned Down Chance to Sign Atletico Madrid Star

Before the arrival of Hugo Ekitike, Paris Saint-Germain was in the market for a striker as they were also linked to Sassuolo Gianluca Scamacca. Furthermore, Neymar Jr.’s future at the capital club was offered the chance to sign a veteran goal scorer, Antoine Griezmann.

According to The Times (via Bernard Colas), Atletico Madrid offered the 31-year-old, who’s on loan to Los Colchoneros from FC Barcelona for another season. Still, it seems they don’t want the French forward for another year as they eye a possible recruitment of Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the English media outlet adds that sporting advisor Luis Campos declined the proposal from the La Liga side. Therefore, it seems Neymar will remain in the French capital, and the current Ligue 1 champions have Ekitike in the striker role.

Then there’s the salary Griezmann would need PSG to pay, and if this summer has been an indicator, Les Parisiens want to trim their wage bill of players with no future. At 31 years old, it wouldn’t make sense for the capital club to add another forward in his 30s.
