Chelsea and FC Barcelona are currently battling to land Sevilla FC defender Jules Kounde; however, should the Catalan side beat out The Blues for the French defender, the Premier League club has Plan B up their sleeve with Presnel Kimpembe.
According to the Express, Kounde is still in Chelsea’s crosshairs, and Thomas Tuchel’s squad will only likely pick up discussions with Paris Saint-Germain again if they miss out on their top target.
Reports suggest that PSG is willing to sell the 26-year-old defender, but only if he wants an exit from the French giants. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem between the two parties, although they have not yet been agreed with the 23-year-old.
If Kimpembe has no interest in leaving his boyhood club, then there’s likely no deal. However, should Chelsea strike out on Kounde, they will need to convince the PSG defender to move to Stamford Bridge rather than remain with Les Parisiens.
The France international has two years on his current deal, and should he exit, the Ligue side would likely go for Sporting CP defender Gonçalo Inácio as his replacement.
