It is well clear that Mauro Icardi’s days of being a regular starter at Paris Saint-Germain are over. However, he could receive a transfer lifeline from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

As noted by Sky Sport Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg, Marc Behrenbeck and Sven Westerschulze, Borussia Dortmund is on the lookout for another center forward in the ongoing summer transfer window. This comes as the club does not have a set timeline for when Sebastian Haller, who was recently diagnosed with a testicular tumour, will end up making his debut for the club.

Dortmund has drawn up a shortlist of possible short-term replacements for Haller. Among them, the Bundesliga side is showing an early interest in Icardi.

The Argentine forward has two more seasons remaining on his current contract at PSG, where he is earning €10 million net per year. However, he reportedly has no intention of lowering his salary in order to push for a move elsewhere.

For now, Icardi could end up being included in PSG’s squad list for its upcoming 2022 Trophee des Champions Final against Nantes.
