Paris Saint-Germain is on the verge of adding a striker to the attack as Stade Reims’ goal scorer Hugo Ekitike is set to join the capital club. However, it appears as though the 20-year-old had his heart set on heading to the current Ligue 1 champions.

Over the last couple of months, Ekitike was linked to Newcastle United, who agreed to a €40 million fee with the French side, but the Premier League side refused to agree to terms with the player’s agent.

Furthermore, Stade de Reims’ president Jean-Pierre Caillot illustrated that despite the €30 million fee PSG presented being lower than Newcastle’s, they could not stand in Ekitike’s way.

“We didn’t quite reach the sum offered by Newcastle but Hugo Ekitike has always been respectful towards the club,” Caillot confirmed to l’Union (via 90min). “We are happy to allow him to fulfill his dream.”

After Mauro Icardi failed to replace former striker Edinson Cavani, PSG hopes they have found their long-term replacement for the Uruguayan and the club’s all-time leading goal scorer. Last season Ekitike appeared in 26 fixtures for Stade de Reims, scoring 11 goals and recording four assists.
