This summer transfer window has seen Neymar Jr. linked to a move away from Paris Saint-Germain and to the Premier League. The 30-year-old has been recently connected to Chelsea since they could afford his wages and pay the fee, but that possibility is out the window.
Chelsea is reportedly on the verge of landing Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling to improve their attack. For talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair, going after the England international was a better move than grabbing the Brazilian.
“I got left out of the studio when I said to people, if you’ve had the chance to have Neymar or Raheem, who would you have as a manager, as a coach? If you want consistency week in, week out, and when he’s having a bad game, he’ll still be a seven out of ten,” Sinclair said on talkSPORT.
🌍 “Sterling is world-class!”
👀 “Between Sterling & Neymar: if you want consistency then you want Sterling!”
😳 “If Neymar isn’t doing well then he might as well not be playing on the pitch!”@Trevor8Sinclair says #MCFC’s Sterling is a better player than #PSG’s Neymar! 🔥 pic.twitter.com/4nAOmPA86k

“[Sterling] works hard for the team. He’s got a fantastic work ethic, whereas Neymar, if he’s not playing, and he’s not doing well going forward, he might as well not be there on the pitch, and that’s the difference between the two players, and for me, he’s going to be a top, top hit at Chelsea.”
Neymar is always the whipping boy for the English football media, considering they know any bashing of the 30-year-old will generate a reaction, more so than saying Sterling is better than Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min, for example.
It will be interesting to see how Neymar comes into this news and whether he plans to play with a chip on his shoulder to prove the growing amount of doubters wrong. With a new project and manager, the forward might want to show he’s still a vital piece at PSG.
