The decision of Kylian Mbappe to extend his deal with Paris Saint-Germain and reject Real Madrid shocked many who follow football, even some of the current players. In an interview with RMC Sport, Aymeric Laporte spoke about his reaction.
Laporte stated that he was surprised to see the 23-year-old remain with the French giants and turn down the advances from Los Blancos since not many players say no when they come knocking.
“It was a surprise to everyone, I think. As a player, we don’t follow the transfer window too much. We are aware, but we will analyze the opponents in each match,” Laporte said.
The Manchester City defender was also asked about the appointment of Christophe Galtier as PSG manager and how other significant clubs across Europe are seeing this hiring since it’s out of the norm by PSG’s standards.
“Any coach is credible to arrive at PSG or in a major European team. There is always a little trick, something to be wary of. We, as City, have to watch our performance, and no one can beat us,” Laporte said.
PSG is entering a new era this upcoming season, where it’s clear that Mbappe is the star player on the team, and the rest are supporting cast members. Furthermore, the appointment of Galtier could be a genius move by sporting advisor Luis Campos or another mishap of a hire.
