This summer will mark the first anniversary of Lionel Messi leaving FC Barcelona after the Spanish club could not sign the 35-year-old and meet the salary wage rules by LaLiga.

Messi would sign a two-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain and wrapped up his first season in the French capital to mix emotions. However, the year before the Argentine exit, Luis Suarez was shown the door.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina, Suarez recalls his feelings when the La Liga side separated them, allowing the Uruguay international to head to Atletico Madrid. Then discussed how Messi left Barcelona a year later.

“All Leo’s numbers at Barça were there and mine too, I didn’t go below 20-25 goals and that they separated us without any argument hurt me at that moment,” Suarez said.

“Then one analyzes and thinks that things happen for a reason, for something you had to step aside. Then it hurt the way Messi left; Also in football, you have to go through stages and try to enjoy where you have to play”

In a separate interview, Suarez was also asked about the possibility of seeing a Barcelona reunion between himself and Messi at Inter Miami. The two of them have been constantly connected to the South Florida club. However, he quickly poured cold water on the two heading to the MLS together in the future.

“Play with Messi at Inter Miami? That is not real. Many things are said. We players cannot go out 24 hours a day to deny what they say. We let them talk; we let them say. Leo has his future in Paris. Then I don’t know where he will want to retire,” Suarez said.
