There’s plenty of skepticism regarding Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to appoint Christophe Galtier as their manager. The French tactician did beat out the capital club during the 2020-21 season for the Ligue 1 title with Lille OSC. However, this will be the highest-profile job of his career.
Galtier has managed at Lille OSC, Saint-Etienne, and OGC Nice, but grabbing the reins at PSG is a different beast. Nonetheless, Jose Fonte stated to talkSPORT that he believes his former gaffer has what it talks to succeed in the French capital.
“Ancelotti tried, Tuchel tried, Pochettino tried, a lot of people have tried, so it’s a tough one,” Font said. “What I do know about Christophe Galtier is that he’s very experienced, a very, very good man-manager, a great personality. He has something about him, an aura, he’s a very funny guy.”
“He’s very good at explaining to you what he wants from the team and what he expects from you. He’s very clever in how he deals with the press and how he deals with everything that surrounds him. And he has Luis Campos behind him as well, which is another strong point, which I don’t think the other managers had.”
Fonte adds that Galtier is a good fit for Les Parisiens and believes the addition of sporting advisor Luis Campos could be a huge bonus, considering the two have worked together and know each other.
“Luis Campos will be in the background sort of doing the dirty work for him, and he can concentrate on the football pitch,” Fonte added.
“He does have big egos and big players, so it will be a challenge to deal with all of them, but I trust that he is more than capable to do it. I really appreciate what he did for us and I know he has a lot of potential and quality to be a successful manager in PSG.”
The French boss will have the task of doing what many others with higher-profile names have failed to do at Paris: to deliver PSG’s first UEFA Champions League in their history.
