Galtier Shares Early Impressions of PSG’s New Tactical System

Paris Saint-Germain clinched a 2-1 victory over Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday in what was the second friendly fixture of its preseason schedule.

In the match, PSG manager Christophe Galtier rolled with a 3-4-1-2 setup, with Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe leading the team’s attack. Messi wound up being the lone player from this trio to log a goal, as he scored in back-to-back friendly encounters.

Speaking after the match, Galtier (via L’Equipe) shared his early impressions of PSG’s play under the 3-4-1-2 setup. He noted that in the big picture, there is “always” room for adaptation to the team’s style of play.

“We are playing in a new system, a 3-4-1-2, so we have to assimilate,” Galtier said. “We had a lot of imbalances and conceded too many situations on our goal. It’s a big work axis for the weeks to come to want, to be able, to have a lot of people offensively and to be able at the same time to keep the right balance.

“We must try to find adjustments and compensations quickly to avoid being caught in transition situations. … There is always adaptation. There is also a reflection to work in another system while remaining very dangerous offensively.”

Next up for PSG will be another friendly match against a J1 League side, as it will meet Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday.
