Galtier Analyzes Where PSG Must Improve On Heading Into the 2022 Trophee des Champions Final

Paris Saint-Germain capped off its preseason friendly schedule with a 6-2 victory over Gamba Osaka on Monday. Five different PSG players got on the scoresheet, including Nuno Mendes, who logged a first half goal.

PSG manager Christophe Galtier was not necessarily completely satisfied with the win. As he noted in his post-match press conference (via L’Equipe), PSG must work to shore up defensive issues heading into the season.

“Like the second goal conceded, we must be more structured and not be disorderly,” Galtier said. “We were very messy, not in the right timing, we had trouble moving around. I can understand it when you lead so widely. But to give no chance to the evening opponent and show a much tougher face for the next matches, this will have to be corrected.”

After allowing a mere one total goal in its opening three preseason matches, PSG watched as Gamba Osaka scored two goals on the day. On Gamba Osaka’s second goal of the contest, Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos were caught off guard by a simple pass by Ko Yanagisawa over to Hiroto Yamami in the penalty box, who took advantage to score an effortless tap-in goal.

PSG will now have the 2022 Trophee des Champions Final against Nantes up next before kicking off its new Ligue 1 campaign.
