Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is set to lead the Brazil national team in the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this year. This will be the third World Cup of Neymar’s career, and the expectations sure will be sky-high for him to finally win a major international tournament with Brazil.

For former Brazilian winger Marquinhos, who featured for clubs such as Santos and Bayer Leverkusen, he sees that for Neymar to win the World Cup this year, it will take a collective effort from the rest of the team to help the PSG star out in this feat. As he explained to UOL, Neymar will have to deliver for Brazil, but he must not carry the load on a match-by-match basis.

“I really hope he wins the World Cup,” Marquinhos said. “But I think we have to take some of the responsibility off Neymar. Then, I see that a boy who played here with me at Avai, [Barcelona winger] Raphinha can also take responsibility.

“Neymar is a note in the song, he is not the whole song, the more to share responsibility, to take the weight off Neymar. … He is a great player, but everyone has to take a little bit of the responsibility.”

Overall, Brazil national team manager Tite is set to have multiple options for the players who he will decide to feature with Neymar in the team’s attack, from Tottenham winger Richarlison to Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Lucas Paqueta.

For now, Neymar sure has much focus on PSG’s upcoming new season, as the Ligue 1 side will have its first official match of the campaign later this month in the 2022 Trophee de Champions Final against Nantes.
