Achraf Hakimi Eyes Beating Out Liverpool, Man City Stars for CAF Player of the Year Award

Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi is one of the better players at his position at 23 years old. However, now the defender could earn the title of best African player, as the CAF announced in a press release the final list of nominees for the men’s categories of the CAF Awards 2022.

Some notable names are competing with Hakimi to land the award as Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez, and Bayern Munich winger Sadio Mane.

A voting board will determine the winners of each category assembled up of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, Head Coaches & Captains of Member Associations, and clubs implicated in the group stage of the Interclub competitions for the 2021/22 season.

In his first season with PSG, Hakimi made 41 appearances, scoring four goals while recording six assists for the French giants. The right-back would also win Ligue 1 with Les Parisiens, reclaiming the title after losing it to Lille OSC the year before.

The awards will occur on July 21st in Rabat, Morocco.
