Video: Keylor Navas Shares Emotions Over Costa Rica Qualifying For the World Cup

On Tuesday night, Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas pitched a clean sheet for Costa Rica to help the Central American nation reach their third consecutive FIFA World Cup following their 1-0 playoff win over New Zealand.

Navas made four saves in 90 minutes of action; after the win, Telemundo Deportes relayed the remarks the PSG shot-stopper spoke about his country reaching the World Cup.

The first question that Navas answered was about his initial emotions, considering the effort needed to get to the playoff spot and win the game.

“I think we never stopped believing, despite the fact that we had, as they say, many finals. We played many games there with the water up to here,” Navas said.

“We knew that we couldn’t make mistakes, that we have to win, but I think that’s where the greatness of each player came out, and we managed to move forward.”

Navas added that the squad would enjoy their accomplishment of reaching another World Cup and then begin preparations for what’s next as they’ll be in a challenging group with Germany, Spain, and Japan.

“Well, for now, I think that now what we have to do is enjoy. There will be time to think. I think we’ve had too much pressure for a long time,” Navas added.

“We knew what we were playing for as football players in the country itself, football in Costa Rica, that we could qualify for the World Cup. And today is a day to enjoy, to be calm, and we’ll think about what’s coming. Obviously, you always want to improve, but today we are going to enjoy ourselves.”
