Report: Messi’s Future at PSG Gets a Pivotal Update

Lionel Messi will be able to leave Paris Saint-Germain next year. The Argentine forward signed off on a two-year free agent deal with the club last year, which included an option for a third season.

According to ESPN’s Julien Laurens, the plan for PSG is to keep Messi at the club past the upcoming season. There are “high hopes” within the club that if the forward “enjoys” next season, he will decide to trigger the option and remain with the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

Laurens further adds that having Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar at the club “adds huge marketing value” for PSG, thus another reason why club officials do not want the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to leave after two years.

Laurens also mentions that PSG “believes” that the team has more of a viable chance to win the UEFA Champions League competition with Messi than without him.

From MLS to PSG, Messi will have plenty of options for just where he will play club football next year.
