Playing Hardball? Pochettino Unwilling to Lower Financial Demands to End Deal with PSG

Mauricio Pochettino has one more year on his contract, so it appears as though the Argentine tactician is willing to play hardball if Paris Saint-Germain wants to sack him to usher in the Christophe Galtier era.

According to Goal, the Argentine tactician wants a significant financial settlement before departing the French capital. The report adds that the two sides are in talks over a severance package, but PSG wants to talk down Pochettino from his demands.

The 50-year-old wants €15 million to sever the contract and isn’t willing to move from his stance regarding the entirety of the money they are obliged to pay him.

As part of that €15 million fee, €3 million is supposed to go to his coaching staff. Among them are his assistant Jesus Perez, goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez, Miguel D’Agostino, and his son, physical coach Sebastian Pochettino.

Once PSG can secure a severance that the club and Pochettino are content with, they can proceed with announcing Galtier as their manager. The Ligue 1 champions found common ground with OGC Nice, who they’re paying €10 million to allow him to get out of his contract.
