For the last few weeks, Newcastle United has hoped to reach an agreement with Stade de Reims striker Hugo Ekitike. The Premier League does have a deal with the French club; however, they have yet to agree on personal terms with the 19-year-old.
Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Paris Saint-Germain is analyzing a move for Ekitike, who sporting advisor Luis Campos likes. Newcastle’s inability to close the deal gives the Ligue 1 side a chance to keep the French talent home.
Romano adds that the interest from the capital club is in the early stages, but should they agree to a deal, there would be no plan of a loan back to Reims for next season.
PSG are keen on improving their striker position this summer as they’re also linked to Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca. Campos has his eyes on both these players, so it will be interesting to see which of these two players the Portuguese club chief goes after.
Ekitike appeared in 26 fixtures for Reims last season, where he scored 11 goals and recorded four assists. Transfermarkt puts the teenager’s value at €28 million with a contract that keeps him with the French side until 2024.
