Chelsea Has Ex-PSG Club Chief on Its Short List of Sporting Director Candidates

Former Paris Saint-Germain left-back Maxwell is on a shortlist of candidates to fill Chelsea’s open sporting director role, per transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano

The Brazilian was recently an assistant sporting director for the French giants after he retired from football. Chelsea is entering a new era following the sale of the Premier League club from Roman Abramovich to American Todd Boehly.

As a result, one of the changes coming to The Blues is needing a new sporting director to replace Marina Granovskaia. Maxwell might be a long-shot candidate considering the other name in the mix is former Liverpool club chief Michael Edwards.

Edwards helped construct the Liverpool squads that have recently won the UEFA Champions League and Premier League, so he could be the leading candidate.

Nonetheless, Maxwell could obtain the job, considering he’s played with some great players in the past during his time with FC Barcelona and PSG, allowing him to see the qualities needed for some to find top talent and fill out a squad.

Also, the Brazilian did cross paths with current manager Thomas Tuchel, who arrived at PSG in 2018, so they could also play into the former defender’s chances to land the position.
