Kylian Mbappe finally ended speculation over his club future on Saturday, as he signed off on a multiyear contract extension deal with Paris Saint-Germain club officials. From former AS Roma forward Francesco Totti’s standpoint, he is pleased to see Mbappe stay put at PSG.
Totti took some time to speak to RMC Sport, where he touched on Mbappe’s call to snub Real Madrid and remain at PSG.
“I’m happy because I think he made the choice from the heart,” Totti said. “He grew up with PSG. It’s not easy to refuse a team like Real Madrid, I also refused him 20 years ago to stay at Roma. And even though Kylian Mbappe is younger, I think he made the right decision. The roots are very important and Kylian Mbappe.”
Totti knows firsthand on what it means to remain loyal to a club, as he spent his entire professional career at Roma. Even though clubs such as Real Madrid showed an interest in signing him, he still elected to stay on at Roma.
As Totti did at Roma, Mbappe sure will have an opportunity to cement his status as the greatest player in PSG history.
