Last summer, Chelsea expressed interest in Paris Saint-Germain central defender Presnel Kimpembe. However, no reunion with former manager Thomas Tuchel occurred, but it seems The Blues are revisiting the Kimpembe file this year.
Chelsea sees Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen exit on free transfers, so a rebuild of their central defense is in order. According to Sky Sports, Kimpembe is on the shortlist of targets that the Premier League wants to replace these two players.
Along with the 26-year-old, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol are also looked at. Despite the interest from his former manager, Kimpembe likely wants to stay with his boyhood club unless they want to push him out.
It will be interesting to see what sporting director Luis Campos decides to do with Kimpembe and whether he considers the France international part of his vision heading into next season.
The Portuguese club chief has all the power in recruiting, so he’s likely to have the final say if he’s open to letting the former academy player exit.
