Pochettino Reflects on What-Ifs from PSG’s 2021-2022 Season

Paris Saint-Germain’s 2021-2022 season is now down to a mere two matches. The reigning Ligue 1 champions will face off against Montpellier before closing out the campaign against Metz on matchday 38.

From the club’s early exit in the Coupe de France tournament to the elimination at the hands of Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, PSG has had plenty of what-ifs this season.

In speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of the Ligue 1 away fixture against Montpellier, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino took some time to look back on some of the team’s shortcomings in the season.

“We lost the Coupe de France on penalties in a particular context, with players concerned by the national selection,” Pochettino said. “We deserved much more after 90 minutes.

“In the Champions League, if we look at the last confrontations, we were the closest team to eliminate Real Madrid. We had moments in this game that cost us dearly. We didn’t do what we wanted to do. We have to get back on our feet and keep trying. We had some difficult moments but the team was able to recover and win the Ligue 1. We must also underline that.”

With the failure to at the least clinch a double this season, a crucial offseason sure awaits PSG.
