Kylian Mbappe will share the pitch with Lionel Messi and Neymar for at least one more season, as the French forward signed off on a multiyear extension deal with Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappe and Neymar are under contract with PSG beyond next season, while Messi is currently set to become a free agent after the upcoming campaign.
During a press conference for his extension agreement, Mbappe was asked on whether Messi and Neymar played a notable factor in his decision to stay put at PSG. The French international revealed that the two simply aspired to respect his final decision on this matter.
“PSG, like Real Madrid, does not need to convince,” Mbappe said. “For Neymar and Messi, they always said it was a decision that belonged to me. The quality of these two players is no longer in question, and they did not talk to me about my contract, they knew it was a personal decision.”
Over this past season, several PSG players echoed Mbappe’s comments regarding his club future. While they all publicly noted that they wanted to see the French forward re-sign with the club, none of them aimed to personally persuade him to do so.
The entire extension dilemma did not prove to be a distraction to Mbappe over the season, as he finished first in goals (28) and assists (17) in Ligue 1 play.
