As is the case for many former Italian national team players, longtime AS Roma forward Francesco Totti is quite a fan of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.
“Already, when he was playing in Pescara, we could see that he would become a great player,” Totti told RMC Sport. “At PSG, he exploded with all these great players. For me, he is really a great player.”
Totti never had the opportunity to share the pitch alongside Verratti with the Italian national team, nor did he play against the PSG midfielder at the club level. Still, he sure has much appreciated Verratti’s elegant style of play with the Azzurri and with the reigning Ligue 1 champions as well.
Verratti capped off his campaign with PSG after totaling 24 appearances in Ligue 1 play, where he recorded two goals and two assists. He also went on to feature in five UEFA Champions League fixtures, including the round of 16 tie against Real Madrid.
While PSG’s season has come to an end, Verratti is still slated to join the Italian national team’s squad list for its June international schedule, which includes a UEFA Nations League group stage encounter with Germany.
