It’s been over a week since Paris Saint-Germain announced the contract extension of Kylian Mbappe, keeping him in the French capital until 2025. Real Madrid supporters didn’t take the news of the 23-year-old staying lightly.
While in Paris for the UEFA Champions League final, fans made it known how they felt being snubbed by Mbappe. From various signs to supporters burning his jersey, they weren’t happy, even after winning their 14th trophy they couldn’t help but talk about the France international.
In an interview with Téléfoot, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was asked about Mbappe deciding to remain with PSG rather than joining him at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium next season.
The 35-year-old stated that he wished his teammate on the France national team would have joined him to live out his childhood dream but respected his decision to remain at home.
“I, in any case, would have liked him to be able to fulfill his dream and play for Real Madrid together. Now he has chosen PSG; you have to respect him. He’s young, he has a lot of responsibilities on him, so it’s his choice,” Benzema said.
Mbappe has brought profound change to PSG in the last week, with Luis Campos incoming to replace Leonardo as the club’s sporting director and emphasize the sporting project rather than the marketing.
