For some of the Paris Saint-Germain players, the Ligue 1 title victory on Saturday was just another trophy win in their careers. For Verratti, this trophy meant just a bit more to him.

Verratti won Ligue 1 for the eighth time in his storied career at PSG. The Italian midfielder was previously in a tie with six others for the most Ligue 1 titles won by a player, including former teammate Thiago Silva (seven).

In speaking to Canal Plus following PSG’s home fixture against RC Lens, the Italian international touched on just what this league title means to him.

“Yes, it’s wonderful,” Verratti said. “When we, footballers, start our careers, we dream of this, to win a championship of very high level. Personally, this is my eighth. I would never have imagined it when I was little.

“It will always remain in my heart because it is never easy. We work every day to get to moments like tonight.”

Verratti has been a vital talent to PSG in its league campaign this season, which includes his 2.4 tackles per match average over 20 appearances.

For Verratti to be a part of 80 percent of PSG’s Ligue 1 titles in club history sure is quite a feat for him.
