The midfield is an area of the Paris Saint-Germain squad that needs an upgrade with players that are at the level of Marco Verratti. In the past, they’ve acquired midfielders who are either depth pieces or not up to the French giants’ demands.
Over the last few weeks, the capital club has been connected to various players, and the latest is Chelsea midfielder Jorginho. According to La Repubblica (via Sports Mole), Barcelona and PSG are contemplating whether to pursue the 30-year-old.
Jorginho has made 39 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals and recording four assists. The midfielder can still play at a high level, but with one more year left on his contract, Chelsea needs to decide whether to extend, sell this summer, or risk losing him in 2023 on a free transfer.
Landing a defensive midfielder is atop of PSG’s list, considering Leandro Paredes and Danilo Pereira are the two players who command that position in some capacity.
Furthermore, Jorginho has chemistry working with Verratti, so pursuing the Itay international makes sense with both players knowing one another, and there’s no need for adaptation.
With Barcelona reportedly set to land AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, it could rule them out for Jorginho, meaning one less competition for PSG should they pursue him this summer.
