With Chelsea now out of the UEFA Champions League, the future of center-back Antonio Rudiger will be at the forefront. The 28-year-old’s contract expires in June and all signs point to him exiting the London-based club.
According to Sport, Rudiger is one of the most coveted center backs on the market and has listened to offers to decide his future this month. The Spanish outlet adds his agent was in Barcelona a few days ago to talk about the possible hiring of him.
The La Liga side, in principle, will not take the step given the high economic demands, and Rudiger’s destiny is disputed by Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Rudiger is looking for a raise in salary, and it’s something that the capital club can provide and would address the issue in the squad. Sergio Ramos’ health has made him unreliable, and Presnel Kimpembe is too inconsistent, which is why the departure of Thiago Silva has become noticeable.
If either Manchester United or Tottenham don’t finish in the top four and don’t have UEFA Champions League football for next season, it could give the capital club the upper hand.
