Marseille Playmaker Payet Drops a Bold Claim on PSG’s Style of Play Under Pochettino

Olympique de Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain does not boast a “defined style of play.”

In speaking to RMC Sport ahead of the upcoming Le Classique encounter between Marseille and PSG, Payet touched on playstyle comparisons between the two powerhouse Ligue 1 clubs, where he noted that his side has an advantage in this aspect of play.

“We have been playing the same way since the start of the season,” Payet said. “They are starting from behind yes. But they don’t have a really defined style of play. … They have possession because they have the players for it, but they’re not organized like us.”

Marseille under manager Jorge Sampaoli has stressed the importance of controlling the pace of play. Marseille ranks at second in Ligue 1 in possession with a 61.4 percent mark.

As Payet touched on, PSG under manager Mauricio Pochettino has placed quite an emphasis on maintaining possession during league fixtures, although it has also ramped up its attacking production in its last two fixtures.

A win for PSG over Marseille on matchday 32 would provide the side with a 15-point lead in the Ligue 1 standings.
