The goal-scoring aspect for Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain hasn’t been what many have expected. When the 34-year-old signed with the French giants, many believed the Argentine would light up the league this season, but that hasn’t been the case.
Messi has only scored three goals in Ligue 1 and zero in the Coupe de France. So L’Equipe (via Marca) decided to take stock of how much is each Messi goal has cost the capital club this season.
The Argentine earns about €30 million net in his first season. In this way, the accounts are simple. Each Messi goal in Ligue 1 has cost PSG €10 million. The veteran forward has become more of a facilitator in his first year, but for 2022-23, PSG might need more from him.
Next season, Messi will get an increase of pressure to score more goals, especially if Kylian Mbappé decides to leave for Real Madrid. They’ll need more contribution from him to replace the production they might lose.
