Sergio Ramos’ first year at Paris Saint-Germain hasn’t gone as planned. The 35-year-old has failed to stay healthy, missing the two most essential fixtures in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchup against Real Madrid.
A former Real Madrid player and current contributor for the ‘El Chiringuito‘ program José María Gutiérrez spoke of the departure of Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid to PSG. He assures that the veteran defender did not know how to deal with the issue regarding his contract extension.
“Sergio Ramos knows that he made a mistake because he pushed too hard when it came to negotiating. He thought that Florentino Pérez was going to do what he wanted, and he doesn’t realize that for Florentino, Real Madrid is above everything,” Gutiérrez said.
“Sergio Ramos is regretting it because he was a Real Madrid legend, he was able to finish his career at the club, and he didn’t take advantage of it. He left through the back door, and it’s a bad start for him.”
Ramos’ future with the French giants is up in the air as a recent report from Le Parisien reveals that they would like to push him out this summer. The Spain international has one more year left on his deal after this season, but PSG could reach an agreement on a termination.
Nonetheless, Ramos recently stated that he plans to play with the capital club next season and has a couple of more years in his football career.
