Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul is now the latest world football player to come to the defense of Lionel Messi after the Argentine forward was booed during Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 home fixture against Bordeaux.
In speaking to TyC Sports (via Le10Sport), De Paul claimed that Messi is a player who is not deserving of boos and whistles on any football pitch in the world.
“You can’t whistle at Messi anywhere in the world, for any reason,” De Paul said. “He has given a lot to the world. Leo is going to turn it around in these games after what happened to him at PSG. It’s hard to understand the fans. He’s very focused on what’s going to happen. I can’t wait to meet him again.”
Messi was subjected to boos and whistles over the course of PSG’s 3-0 home win over Bordeaux, as the Parc des Princes crowd shared a bulk of their frustrations over the club’s recent early UEFA Champions League exit towards him.
PSG’s next home fixture will come after the upcoming and final international break of the season, as it will meet Lorient for a Ligue 1 clash on April 3. It sure will be noteworthy to see on the reception that Messi will garner in the contest should he go on to play in the match.
