Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi garnered much attention following the Argentina national team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying win over Venezuela, as he noted that he aims to reevaluate his future with La Albiceleste after the international tournament later this year.
In speaking during a press conference ahead of the World Cup qualifying encounter against Chile, Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni (via AFA) touched on the future of Messi with the side.
“Messi will have to sit down and think, as he has always done,” Scaloni said. “After playing in a World Cup you make assessments. In any case, we have to enjoy it. We mustn’t think about the future, but enjoy their spectacular present.”
Overall, Messi’s future with the Argentina national team has been much in question as of late, especially as the upcoming World Cup has been speculated to be his final international tournament.
For now, Messi may end up featuring for Argentina against Chile, which will then be followed up by him rejoining PSG for the remainder of the Ligue 1 campaign.
