Report: The Father of Lionel Messi Called the FC Barcelona Leaders to Discuss a Potential Return

The supporters heckled lionel Messi and the majority of the Paris Saint-Germain players at the Parc des Princes during the matchup against FC Girondins de Bordeaux. As a result, there are reports regarding the Argentine’s future in the French capital.

According to journalist Gerard Romero, Jorge Messi called FC Barcelona leaders to discuss a potential return to the club, where he spent more than 20 years. Since his departure last summer, the 34-year-old has often returned to the Catalan city.

Despite his father and likely Messi wanting to return to the Spanish club, the Argentine’s contractual situation with Paris does not open the door to an imminent exit.

Last summer, Messi signed a two-year contract, plus an optional extra year. Therefore, the forward is linked with Paris at least until 2023 and perhaps even until 2024 since there’s an option in the deal.

Messi’s gigantic salary (€30-million net per season) complicates the task for Barça in the grip of serious financial difficulties, especially since the Argentine forward could receive €10-million more per year if he honors his next two years of contract with PSG.
