Paris Saint-Germain decided to go with Gianluigi Donnarumma as the starting goalkeeper for their UEFA Champions League Round of 16. The 23-year-old would have the costly mistake lead to the comeback by Real Madrid in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
However, the decision didn’t sit well with Keylor Navas as L’Equipe (via Daily Mail) reports that he was “furious” at being left out of the match to face his former club.
This season, the capital club chose to play with fire, trying to accommodate both goalkeepers rather than selling Navas when they decided to sign Donnarumma on a free transfer. PSG has done its best to split the starts down the middle; nonetheless, a situation like this was bound to happen.
Once Les Parisiens went into the knockout stages, they were going to have to make a choice, and they went with Donnarumma, which wasn’t going to sit well with Navas.
These next few months should mark the end of the Costa Rica international as Donnarumma becomes the goalkeeper full-time next season.
