Rafinha Reflects on the Decision to Leave PSG for Real Sociedad on a Loan Move

Brazilian midfielder Rafinha opted to return to La Liga over the recent winter transfer window, as he joined Real Sociedad on a half-season loan deal.

In speaking to La Liga World, the Paris Saint-Germain loanee took a look back on his decision to make a temporary switch back to Spain’s top flight.

“They had been interested for some time, but we had never talked about it,” Rafinha said. “In November, the negotiations began, I wanted to return to Spain and I knew this club. The last six months in Paris were difficult, I wanted to return to play in Spain. I’m very happy, there is harmony in the dressing room, it’s like a family.”

Rafinha featured in a mere five matches in all competitions over the first half of the season with PSG, as he was seemingly behind in the midfield depth chart behind the likes of Ander Herrera and Danilo Pereira. In his ongoing run with Real Sociedad, he has emerged as a regular under manager Imanol Alguacil Barrenetxea, which has included featuring in the UEFA Europa League playoff round tie against RB Leipzig.

As it stands, Rafinha is set to return to PSG after this season.
