Messi Provides an Outlook on Future With the Argentina National Team

Lionel Messi led the Argentina national team to a 3-0 win over Venezuela in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying play. The reigning Copa America champions maintained possession with ease and created keen goal-scoring chances over the match.

After the match (via AFA), Messi shied away from providing a definitive date on just when he may play his final match with Argentina. However, he did note that he aims to reevaluate his future with La Albiceleste after the World Cup.

“I’m thinking about what’s next, in Ecuador,” Messi said. “After the World Cup, I’m going to have to rethink a lot of things.”

Overall, Messi has already left behind a stout legacy with Argentina, from being its all-time leading goal-scorer to the triumph in leading the side to a 2021 Copa America win.

Regardless of what Messi ends up deciding after the World Cup, Argentina sure will be in good hands in the long-term with the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez leading the way upfront.

Argentina will finish the ongoing international break with a World Cup qualifying fixture against Ecuador on Tuesday.
