Italian National Team Manager Mancini Discusses Donnarumma’s Recent Form at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was much criticized for his blunder during his side’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg loss to Real Madrid.

The play allowed for Real Madrid to score its opening goal of the tie, and the floodgates opened from there as Los Blancos went on to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the competition.

During a press conference (via FIGC) ahead of the Italian national team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff qualifying fixture against North Macedonia, manager Roberto Mancini was asked on whether he is worried at all about Donnarumma’s recent form. The Euro 2020-winning manager was straightforward with his response on this matter.

“Absolutely not,” Mancini said. “Having Gigio with us is always better than having him against.”

Overall, Donnarumma has allowed three goals in each of his last two appearances with PSG, which include the side’s recent 3-0 Ligue 1 away defeat to AS Monaco.

Donnarumma is slated to go on and feature for Italy against North Macedonia later this week.
