Former Barça President States Lionel Messi Won’t Return to the Spanish Club as a Player

Despite Lionel Messi departing FC Barcelona last summer, the exit continues to be a topic of discussion and the latest to give their thoughts on the matter.

The latest is Former Barcelona President Joan Gaspart interviewed with Channel 1 on Egyptian television, where he spoke on where Messi will play next season. The Argentine forward has another year left on his contract, but it has been a slow adaptation to French football.

As a result, there’s speculation about whether Messi could seek a departure from Paris Saint-Germain, but Gaspart doesn’t believe that will be happening.

“I do not expect Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona as a player in the near future, and I think that due to the wishes of his wife and children, he prefers to stay at Paris Saint-Germain, but it is possible that come back to Barcelona for your vacations because you love the city,” Gaspart said.

Furthermore, Gaspart talked about how Messi left, considering he was out of a contract and the Spanish club couldn’t afford to fit his wages under the La Liga salary cup, to the way Luis Figo left.

“Messi is the best player in the world, and his departure affected him negatively, but he left in a professional way, unlike Luis Figo. Messi’s departure had a greater negative impact than the Figo’s departure from Barcelona,” Gaspart said.

“You have to take into account that the pandemic negatively affected Barcelona, so Lionel Messi left the team due to special circumstances, he understood the matter and moved to Paris Saint-Germain.”

Despite Messi struggling to find his scoring boots, he has become a facilitator on the squad, already registering ten assists, which is tied for the Ligue 1 lead.
