‘We Will Go to Paris to Win’ – Marco Asensio Talks Upcoming First Leg Against PSG

Paris Saint-Germain will welcome Real Madrid for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. The capital club hopes to go on another deep run in the knockout stages that culminates in winning the trophy, but they have a formidable opponent.

As a result, they’re ready to put all their attention into this matchup, and midfielder Marco Asensio states Los Blancos is heading to the Parc des Princes to win. In an interview with Cadena Ser (via Canal Supporters), the 26-year-old spoke about their upcoming matchup versus PSG.

“The PSG game? In such a match, there is no favorite. We are up against a great team, with great stars, but we are Madrid, we have confidence in ourselves and this year we are achieving important things. We will go to Paris to win,” Asensio said.

Real Madrid sits atop the La Liga standings with a comfortable lead, but like PSG, did crash out of their domestic cup tournament last week. Both clubs have a decent point buffer to put this matchup as a priority heading into the two-legs.

Along with talking about the tie against Les Parisiens, Asensio also spoke about the possibility of being teammates with Kylian Mbappé next season as Real Madrid hopes to land the 23-year-old when his contract expires.

“Mbappe? I want to play with the best. Mbappé is a player who has shown a lot of things and is talked about to come here,” Asensio said.

“If he comes, I would be happy to share the locker room with him, and we would understand each other perfectly on the pitch. The competition? The best always come to Real Madrid, and I’m ready to face it with anyone!”
