Video: Unai Emery Discusses the Differences of Managing PSG, Villarreal

Unai Emery’s time at Paris Saint-Germain is one that many might want to forget, considering the Spanish manager was at the helm of the capital club for the infamous 6-1 match against FC Barcelona.

Following Villarreal’s 1-1 draw against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Emery spoke with TNT Sports Brazil, where he was asked about managing a club like PSG, with its star players like Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé in contrast to a club like Villarreal, where it’s only football.

“It’s difficult to do things well because you also have to work on football,” Emery said. “On a personal level, it involves the players and everything around them.”

“There are so many things around you that you have to try to focus a lot on the football. The players do that, but they have a lot of other outside obligations that sometimes take them a bit away from football. But it’s a pleasure to work with this guy of players.”

Emery spent two seasons in the French capital before being sacked in 2018. The Spanish manager would then head to Arsenal and is now at Villarreal, where he won the UEFA Europa League last season.
