Paris Saint-Germain got off to a slow start against AS Saint-Étienne. The capital club conceded the first goal, but the brilliance of Kylian Mbappé helped the Ligue 1 side overcome the hole that they dug themselves.
The 23-year-old took two assists from Lionel Messi to score his brace, seeing Mbappé tie Zlatan Ibrahimović for second on PSG’s all-time leading goalscorers list.
After the 3-1 victory, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke at a news conference to provide his thoughts on the performance by Mbappé.
“It’s not easy (he repeats himself). It’s amazing, wonderful. He is an incredible player. We are very happy to have him with us. I’m proud of him,” Pochettino said.
“I’m very happy because we finished the match very well. We are playing the second half in the pattern in which we wanted to play. I’m very happy with the performance, but Kylian is a fantastic player. Just like Leo, Ney. This is something very important for us.”
