Following the 1-0 first leg victory by Paris Saint-Germain over Real Madrid, all the praise landed on Kylian Mbappé for scoring the game-winner late in the second half. However, despite the result, Lionel Messi did receive criticism from the French media.

Messi missed the penalty kick chance that would have given the capital club the 1-0 lead earlier. Nonetheless, the 34-year-old has been criticized for that mistake by some football pundits in France.

But some fellow Argentines are coming to the defense of Messi. Former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero recently went after the French football media. Now, Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata Néstor Gorosito is the latest to attack the media in France.

“They know about perfumes, not football,” Gorosito said to ESPN Argentina (via TyC Sports)

Messi lost the ball on 23 occasions and only completed 82-percent of his passes, with the main target of the criticism focusing on the missed penalty kick.

It will be interesting to see if these negative remarks fuel Messi or if more criticism will come towards the 34-year-old as the season goes along.
