Report: Kylian Mbappé Wants Penalty Kick Duties Over Lionel Messi, Neymar

Last week, Paris Saint-Germain had two penalty kick opportunities generated by Kylian Mbappé but weren’t converted by his teammates. As a result, L’Équipe reports that Mbappé would like to take penalties for the remaining matches of the season.

The first miss came against Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League. The 23-year-old created the chance, and Lionel Messi stepped up to take the shot.

Messi had the opportunity to open the scoring against Los Blancos, but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stopped his shot. The capital club would score in the final minutes of the second half, with Mbappé scoring for the 1-0 win.

Last Saturday, Mbappé again generated another penalty kick opportunity, but this team it was Neymar who took the shot. Down 3-1, PSG needed to score to get themselves back in the match against FC Nantes.

Neymar was unable to get the goalkeeper to bite on his lead up to the shot, making it an easy save for Alban Lafont.

Executing penalty kicks is a real problem for the capital club, with a success rate of only 70-percent, with seven converted attempts out of 10 whistled this season. This is one of the lowest rates in Europe.

Competing with Messi and Neymar in the shooting hierarchy, Mbappé has converted three penalty kick chances this season, the Argentine two and the Brazilian only has one.
