Pochettino Provides a Key Update on Di Maria’s Injury Following PSG’s Ligue 1 Win Over Lille OSC

Paris Saint-Germain cruised to a key 5-1 win over Lille OSC in Ligue 1 play, although there is now some early concern regarding playmaker Angel Di Maria.

Over the late stages of the first half, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to sub off Di Maria for midfielder Julian Draxler. Di Maria suffered an apparent left calf injury during the contest and was unable to finish off the remainder of the match.

For the moment, Pochettino does not see that Di Maria came away from the contest with a long-term injury, which he touched on following the match (via Prime Video Sport France).

“I don’t think it’s very serious,” Pochettino said. “It’s a leg knock and I really hope he’s available as soon as possible.”

Overall, Di Maria finished with 10 successful passes completed and one total shot recorded during his time on the pitch against Lille OSC. He has not chipped in for a goal contribution in Ligue 1 play since his one-goal showing in PSG’s away win over AS Saint-Etienne in November.

It will be noteworthy to see whether Di Maria’s calf injury will impact his availability for PSG’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg clash against Real Madrid later this month.
