Pochettino Opens Up on Where It Went Wrong in the Coupe de France Defeat vs. OGC Nice

Paris Saint-Germain will not be celebrating a treble-winning campaign this season, as it was eliminated in the Coupe de France round of 16 by OGC Nice.

The fixture between the top two clubs in the Ligue 1 standings featured a scoreless 90 minutes of action followed by OGC Nice having the last laugh in the penalty shootout.

In speaking after the match (via Le Parisien), PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino noted that the lack of goal-scoring chances created by his team played into its early elimination in the Coupe de France tournament.

“We were better than Nice overall,” Pochettino said. “We deserved to go through. We didn’t create enough chances to score goals and win this game before the penalties. We should have been more efficient in the last meters.”

PSG won the Coupe de France tournament last season, as Pochettino’s side came away with a win over AS Monaco in the final. PSG will now only have league and UEFA Champions League matches on its schedule for the remainder of the ongoing campaign.

For now, PSG will return to league play in the upcoming match against Lille OSC.
