Lille Manager Gourvennec Details Takeaways from Messi’s PSG Run So Far

Lille OSC manager Jocelyn Gourvennec sees that the addition of Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain has been “excellent” for Ligue 1.

In speaking during a press conference ahead of the upcoming Ligue 1 clash between Lille and PSG, Gourvennec provided his early impressions of Messi’s run with the French powerhouse so far this season.

“I haven’t seen all the games and you can’t get an idea by seeing one or two games,” Gourvennec said. “To see him in France is excellent news and to have him in our championship is always excellent news and something very positive.

“After that, he had some little problems but he is still a great player. There is not much to say, it remains a very very great player and one of the greatest in history. I hope he will still be playing football for many years.”

Messi has had a roller-coaster run in Ligue 1 as of late. Overall, the Argentine forward still sits at a mere one goal scored through 12 matches played in Ligue 1. This comes as the veteran forward has notched a 3.7 shots per game average in league play.

On the other hand, Messi has found some success in being an on-ball playmaker for PSG in Ligue 1, which includes five assists recorded to go along with a notable 2.2 key passes per match average.

A notable test sure will await Messi in PSG’s next two league fixtures, as it will meet both Lille and Rennes.
