The future of Kylian Mbappé remains an ongoing topic of discussion in the French media. Paris Saint-Germain remains hopeful they can reach an extension with the 23-year-old with Real Madrid lurking, hoping to land him on a free transfer this summer.
Since the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Los Blancos is occurring next week, conversations about the France international’s future is ramping up. RMC Sport’s Jérôme Rothen gave his opinion on what will happen later this summer.
Rothen states that PSG needs to be prepared to lose Mbappé in June when his contract expires despite the forward not yet having announced his decision, but the pundit believes he’s already made his decision.
“I think he does not want to talk about it and that in his head he does not want to extend to PSG; otherwise, he would have already done so,” Rothen said. “I think once again that, if PSG had a slim hope of changing their decision and extending it, things would have had to be changed internally,” Rothen said on RMC Sport (via Paris Fans).
“In terms of image, in terms of level on the pitch and in the locker room. I’m sorry, but Kylian Mbappé is having his best season; he has had some incredible games while the team was ghostly. Do you believe that when he returns home, he never says to himself, ‘What is the name of PSG, and when we have such and such a player, how can Leonardo allow certain things to happen? I think Kylian has made his decision but does not want to communicate.”
At some point, Mbappé needs to announce his decision; regardless, PSG needs to have plans for next season that either include the forward or don’t. The worst scenario would be not to have plans to replace the forward should he leave the French capital for Real Madrid.
