After contracting Covid-19 during the holiday break and working his way back to match fitness, Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi appears ready for his first minutes of 2022.
The 34-year-old appears fit to play in PSG’s upcoming match against Stade de Reims when they visit the Parc des Princes. Ahead of the matchup, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke about having Messi back in the squad training.
“He trained well this week, and we are satisfied with his progress. He will be in the group tomorrow. It’s always good news when players come back to help the team,” Pochettino said.
“I am happy. Having Leo in the squad is always a boost for performance. He helps the team. I want to remind you that he has 7 Ballons d’Or’s, so we know what he represents and can bring to the group.”
Les Parisiens need Messi to gain minutes, and match fitness as the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 against Real Madrid is only a couple of weeks away.
