Pochettino Reveals the Halftime Tactical Change That Played a Major Role in Mbappe’s Hat-Trick Performance vs. Vannes

Paris Saint-Germain notched a 4-0 win over Vannes in the Coupe de France round of 32 on Monday. PSG star forward Kylian Mbappe led the way in the contest, as he recorded a second half hat-trick.

In speaking after the match, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino noted (via L’Equipe) that he made one key change at halftime that played into Mbappe being provided with the opportunity to make the most out of his trio of key goal-scoring chances in the second half.

“We changed some positions on the field, especially those of the three midfielders when we had the ball to have a better connection with our strikers,” Pochettino said. “This allowed us to have a better fluidity in the circulation of the ball, and to find depth.”

The fixture for PSG was essentially a tale of two halves. After failing to score an open play goal in the first half, PSG was more of the aggressors in the second half due to its three goals scored and 14 total shots.

PSG will now clash with OGC Nice in the Coupe de France round of 16. The side is well aiming to clinch yet another win in this domestic cup competition.
