Paris Saint-Germain came away with a 1-1 draw result against Olympique Lyonnais in its opening Ligue 1 fixture of the calendar year.
Overall, PSG had its way in possession over the course of the contest and also created a couple of key goal-scoring chances. In the end, the side was only able to muster up one goal, which came courtesy of center-back Thilo Kehrer in the second half.
In the big picture, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino sees that midfielders Xavi Simons and Edouard Michut helped to change the match in the second half. But overall, Pochettino views that his attacking setups struggled to create much against a Lyon side that relied on its low blocks in crucial situations of the match, which he explained further after the contest (via RMC Sport).
“We had a lot of trouble moving the ball in the first half,” Pochettino said. “We were slow. We conceded a goal quickly. Lyon played very low and left us little space. We also made mistakes that gave them chances to counter us. It was a difficult situation, but we have to be satisfied.”
PSG has now recorded 47 points over its opening 20 matches of the campaign, and it has notched four draw results in its last five league fixtures.
