Pochettino Answers on Whether Messi Could Feature in PSG’s Upcoming Ligue 1 Fixture Against Lyon

Paris Saint-Germain will return to Ligue 1 play in the upcoming away fixture against Olympique Lyonnais. PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino could be without Argentine forward Lionel Messi, as the club revealed ahead of the Coupe de France fixture against Vannes that the reigning Ballon d’Or winner recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Following PSG’s crucial 4-0 away win over Vannes, Pochettino was asked (via L’Equipe) on if Messi may be available for the clash with Lyon. As it stands, Pochettino remains uncertain on whether Messi could be cleared in time for the match.

“There is no news about Leo Messi at the moment,” Pochettino said. “And frankly for Lyon, I don’t know. We’ll train every day and we’ll see.”

Messi reportedly spent the Christmas break in Rosario, Argentina. Pochettino recently noted that the Argentine forward will travel to France once he receives a negative test.

If Messi ends up not receiving the green light to play against Lyon, Kylian Mbappe may end up being called upon to lead PSG’s attack in the fixture. The forward is just coming off of a hat-trick performance against Vannes.
